Press release to the public

Since June 24, 7,000 people and 19 communities in the village of Puerto López, in the municipality of El Bagre, have been in a serious humanitarian crisis as a result of the conflict generated by various armed groups that have forced the closure of roads, commerce and the total confinement of the population.

According to leaders in the area, on June 25, officials from the Governor's Office of Antioquia, headed by Andrés Julián Rendón, arrived with the delivery of approximately 300 markets and institutional supplies. That same day, the governor announced that the situation was under control by the public forces; however, after the departure of the officials, the community continued to be confined and harassed by the armed groups.

Faced with this situation, the inhabitants of Puerto Lopez marched on June 28 demanding effective measures and guarantees for life and permanence in their territory. Today, June 2, they continue in confinement and uncertainty that worsens as the days go by.

In addition, there is a public health crisis that is affecting mainly children and adolescents who, due to the lack of medical supplies, have not received timely and effective care.

A similar situation of confinement was denounced by the IPC on February 14, after the AGC declared the inhabitants of Puerto Lopez as a military target, after they were identified as collaborators of the FARC dissidents.

From the Instituto Popular de Capacitación - IPC, we call on the National Government, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Ombudsman's Office, the international system of the United Nations, the Government of Antioquia and the Mayor's Office of El Bagre to act urgently to address the serious situation of human rights violations and humanitarian crisis that the population of Puerto Lopez is once again facing.

Likewise, we urge these institutions and entities to call on these armed groups to assume the commitments that have been agreed upon in the framework of the total peace dialogues.
